The Benefits of Boarding With a Professional Dog Trainer
● We’re able to recognize the different levels of stress and help your pup adjust so they can enjoy all the amenities our boarding has to offer!
○ If your dog is distressed- we will need to talk about options
● We spend a lot of time observing, predicting, and influencing dog behavior. Play groups are closely monitored to help pups through new situations that may otherwise lead to a misunderstanding. We are able to observe and influence behavior so they can come out the other side a more socially well rounded pup.
● Some behavior concerns stem from over-arousal and overstimulation during playgroup or during their boarding experience. We ensure there’s time for them to decompress and opportunities to practice neutrality in the presence of other dogs.
● Subtle body language and trigger stacking is often overlooked but plays a major role in how a pup may relate to their environment and its surroundings. We are able to be proactive when it comes to advocating for your dog and giving them what they need on a daily basis.
● We take the time to teach them the house rules and make sure they don’t develop any “bad habits.” For example: nuisance/demand barking, over-arousal in the presence of dogs, forcing themselves through doorways, respecting boundaries set by gates/people/dogs, jumping on doors or being crazy at the window, etc
○ We provide coaching free of charge as part of their boarding integration. In instances where formal training is required, we’ll make note and discuss associated fees before their next booking.
● The presence of a new, novel, or limited resource can create an environment of competition/conflict. We maintain your pup’s ability to share resources and will make necessary adjustments over high value resources. (example: toys, treats, human interaction, etc)
● We provide honest notes for playgroups so you have an accurate understanding of your pup’s social development and if there’s any growth opportunities. It’s fairly common for franchise locations to report “they were good” as you pick up after an extended stay- but what does that mean exactly? Dogs are constantly communicating in subtle and animated ways so it’s important your pet care provider knows how to ‘listen’ even to the quietest voice.
