What We Do For Our Pets
Every pup has a unique personality with quirks and preferences. At SS Boarding we like to get to know them on a deeper level and use our expertise to set them up for success. Our approach focuses on reducing stress and maximizing comfort through exercise, rest, enrichment, and mindful handling throughout the day.
A big cause of unnecessary stress in new environments comes from restlessness and overstimulation. We open our home to boarding guests which puts them at ease and provides a familiar feel, making the transition easier. Outside of couch cuddles and movie night, we show our love and passion for pet care by:
● Helping your pup get a good night’s sleep by playing calming music composed specifically for dogs that is soothing and promotes relaxation. (Music: Through A Dog’s Ear has been clinically demonstrated to calm dogs and reduce anxiety.)
● Allowing pups to bring comfort items from home so they can be surrounded by a familiar scent which makes for a smooth transition in a new environment
● Including enrichment in their crate to help them settle during quiet time. We’ll provide them with owner-approved chews or a stuffed Kong to help them self-soothe before enjoying more time outside.
● Keeping them safe with a fully fenced in yard with a primary play yard and two smaller sections.
● Having a grass area for natural enrichment and providing a familiar scent/texture that some pup’s need to confidently relieve themselves
● Upgrading our play yard to include some turf makes outdoor fun an all weather activity and makes it possible for us to do a more detailed cleaning between visits.
● Facilitating structured playgroups that promote positive dog-dog interactions, sharing resources, and confidence building with our playground equipment
● Filling the play yard with a variety of objects to stimulate their senses while also creating safe spaces should a pup need some time to themselves.
● Our crating policy allows for us to be flexible. We take great care in making sure having “roommates'' doesn't disturb anyone’s ability to get a good night's rest
● Prioritizing safety and hygiene with multiple cameras around the property, temperature control units, temperature and moisture monitoring systems, routine sanitation, outdoor sanitation, pet safe yard treatment, etc
